Sherwood Shovelers

Tina Green reported 2 drake Northern Shovelers at Sherwood Island, and this morning I went and saw them.  They were easy to find- striking patterns on this ducks body make it very distinctive.  Very pretty ducks, and this was the first time I had ever seen them in CT.  Sorry for the crummy photo- I’m still getting used to digiscoping with the new camera.

A poor photo of the 2 shovelers

Also- someone put together a great site about the 3/19 pelagic, collaborating a lot of photos and showing maps.  To see, click Here.

  1. What a nice sighting, ducks are one of my favorite species. I can’t wait for them to return but it might be a while. I live in Alberta Canada and there is still lots of snow on the ground and ponds lakes and rivers are frozen solid. I would love to use a digiscope but I haven’t gotten the chance yet.
